Battery Door
The battery doors of your hearing aids are used everyday. When you're not using your hearing aids, you should open the battery doors. Because of the oils on your skin dirt and grime can build up around the edges of the battery doors. Use the brush provided by your hearing aid specialist to clean around the edges of the battery doors.
Volume Control
The volume controls of your hearing aids are used even more than your battery doors. The same problem exists with the oils on skin causing a build up of dirt and grime. This dirt and grime not only gets on top of the volume control, it also gets underneath the volume wheel eventually causing the volume control to fail. This can be stopped once again by using the brush your hearing aid specialist provided for you. Be sure to clean underneath the volume wheel as much as possible with the brush. The volume wheel should turn as you clean it so brush both clockwise and counter-clockwise.
Switches
Some hearing aids have telephone switches and very old hearing aids may have noise reduction switches (which were pretty useless thus only old hearing aid have them). The same situation applies here about oil from the skin and grime getting on the switch. Again use your brush to clean the hearing aids with the switch in both positions.
If one of your hearing aids is making a buzzing sound and you cannot hear any amplification, check the telephone switch and make sure it's not toggled to telephone.
Memory Buttons
More memory buttons are found on hearing aids now as opposed to toggle switches. Some hearing aids can use up to five memories for various environments. I never cared for these options as many patients were confused by them. Most patients also selected one memory they thought sounded good and stuck with that one memory. Multi-memory hearing aids slow down actual adjustment of proper amplification of sound and speech via hearing aids. How would you like it if your "normal" hearing sounded different to you even one out of two times in the same noise environment. Be difficult to get used to wouldn't it?
But, this is about care. So use your brush on the memory button as well once again due to the oils on your skin and grime forming on the memory button eventually working its way into the circuitry. Memory buttons don't go bad as often as toggle switches due, but it does happen and with proper care some of these repairs can be avoided.
Moisture
Moisture can affect any electronic device. Imagine storing your television in an environment of salt water and ear wax and expecting it to function perfectly without any professional care. That's the same environment your hearing aids are in up to 16 hours a day. A moisture guard box in which the hearing aids are stored over night will help cut problems due to moisture.
If either of your hearing aids is intermittent, in other words shuts off and turns on on its own and the problem seems to repair itself when you let it sit out of your ear for a period of time, only to shut down again after being in your ear, this can be a moisture problem.
DO NOT put your hearing aids in the microwave to dry them out. It's true, people have tried this. Placing your hearing aids in the microwave will fry the circuitry.
Microphone
Microphones are very small. They're found on the faceplates of the hearing aids. The part that faces out when they're in your ears. The microphones are the tiny holes you see in your hearing aids. They'll either be one or two holes. Sometimes the microphone are covered by a mic inlet screen which helps to catch dirt flying through the air. The screens have tiny holes in them to let the sound in, but they can clog up with dirt.
Use your brush on the microphones but do not force the brush into the holes where the microphones are located. Avoid using hairspray with your hearing aids in your ears. You might even wait for your hair to dry out from any moisture from the hairspray.
Sound Tube
The sound tubes are how the sound comes out of your hearing aids and into your ears. Sounds tubes plug up more from ear wax and dry skin more than any other part on hearing aids. By nature, the gland which produces ear wax, the cerumen gland, is designed to point out the of your ear so the ear wax will flow out and is less likely to cause an impaction. Sound must go in. Ear wax must come out. See the problem?
There are some hearing aids which have wax guard protectors of various types. Some of these are patient changeable. If you know you're battery is good but you are getting little to no volume then change your wax guard. If you do not have a wax guard, use the wire end of your brush or the wired cleaning tool your hearing aids came with to gently clean the wax out of the end of the hearing aid where the sound comes out. This is the end which goes into your ear.
In the case of hearing aids with comfort tips, which also stop feedback or whistling of the hearing aids, these can simply be removed and snap another one right back on. While you have it off run a thin wire or needle through the horizontal red (for right) or blue (for left) hole where the sound comes out of the hearing aids. This should clear any wax that the comfort tip hasn't caught.
Shell
The shell or outside of your hearing aids is made out of a special hypo-allergenic plastic which is less likely to cause an allergic reaction. If your ears becomes red and very dry after use or red and wet after use where ever the hearing is touching, stop wearing the hearing aids and contact your hearing instrument specialist. This is very rare The main concern is keeping the hearing aids clean. There are cleaning solutions that can be purchased, but in most cases a tissue to dry your hearing aids and wipe them off is sufficient.

This sounds like a lot of work, but a lot of scenarios have been covered here. Just remember your basic cleaning discussed here and keeping your hearing aids dry.

Celestron 52250 80mm Ultima Zoom Spotting Scope
Celestron’s popular Ultima 80mm Zoom Spotting Scope offers images that are noticeably brighter and sharper than entry level 60mm spotters. The Ultima 80 is a refractor style spotting scope with an Achromatic objective lens. The multi-coated 80mm objective lens delivers 77% brighter views than a 60mm scope, and the built in zoom lens produces sharp images from 20X all the way up to 60X magnification.
The Ultima 80 features a sleek, waterproof design and includes a padded soft case with zippers on both ends so the scope can be protected even while mounted on a tripod. Including the eyepiece the Ultima 80 measures just over 18 inches long and weighs about 3.6 pounds. The rubber eyecup can be removed to expose a standard “T-thread” for attaching a camera. I like the 45* angled eyepiece because I can use a shorter tripod to support the spotting scope while viewing or while taking pictures with a small camera attached to the eyepiece.
The focus ranges from 27 feet to the horizon with just a few turns of the focus knob. When I fold down the rubber eye cup I can keep my glasses on and see the whole 2 degree field of view at 20X magnification. With my glasses on I need very little focus adjustment while I crank the zoom eyepiece from 20X up to 60X. Sometimes though I like to take my glasses off while observing because the view seems to have just a little more contrast and sharpness. I like the fact that the Ultima 80 gives me a sharp image either way.
The drawback of the tradition crown and flint achromatic lens used in the Ultima 80 Zoom Spotting Scope is a bit of false color, also known as blue fringing or chromatic aberration. Blue fringing seems well controlled at 20X magnification, but it becomes increasingly noticeable as I zoom up to 60X. Celestron also offers the Ultima 80ED and the Regal 80 F-ED spotting scopes which use exotic ED glass lenses to virtually eliminate blue fringing and produce the sharpest possible high power views.

For this shot, I used a white seamless background with two Photogenic studio strobes lighting the background, one strobe provided some backlighting for the outside rose petals, one strobe was placed in front of the rose, and a large silver reflector to the right filled shadows. The slight backlighting effect provides a halo of light petals around the darker center area of the rose. To maintain good detail through the bloom, I used a narrow f/22 aperture. Exposure: f/22, 1/125 sec., ISO 100, Manual shooting mode with Evaluative metering. |  Photo courtesy of Charlotte Lowrie With the integrated flash transmitter, it is easy to control and fire multiple Speedlites using the 7Dâs built-in flash and the Flash Control menu. For this image, I used a Canon 580EXII and a 580EX Speedlite. The 580EX lit a white poster board background and the 580EXII lit the apple and the water. Both flash units were set up as slaves and fired in TTL mode at full power. I had the 7D set to Manual shooting mode with a bit of overexposure to brighten the background and water. The trick is to catch the apple at a mid point in the water while showing its bubbly path through the water. I learned to drop the apple, wait a split second, and then fire the shutter. I used High Speed Continuous drive mode, but with an approximately 3-second flash recycle time, the only usable picture in a burst was the first image when the flashes fired at full power. For images like this, keys include: having a lot of patience, shooting many images, using a sparkling, scratch-free container, keeping the container full of water, and having a good supply of towels to mop up water. I was happy to learn that Canonâs Speedlites are apparently impervious to water splashes. Exposure: f/2.8, 1/250 sec., ISO 200 with Highlight Tone Priority enabled, using the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens with Evaluative metering. |  Photo courtesy of Charlotte Lowrie The 7D combined with a good lens is a great tool for making portraits. Since part of my business is pet portraits, I appreciate the quick response of the 7D and the fast and accurate autofocus performance since pets seldom stay still for very long. Every once in awhile, a new camera comes out that genuinely fits the needs of beginning photographers who are looking for a step up from a point-and-shoot camera, and who are looking for affordability and excellent image quality. The most recent camera that fits that description is the Canon EOS Rebel T3/1100D. This is a great camera for anyone who wants to make the move from a compact point-and-shoot to a full-featured digital SLR camera. The EOS T3/1100D makes the transition to a digital SLR virtually painless with the simplified layout of controls on the back and top of the camera. Starting with the Mode dial, new Rebel photographers can choose to have the camera make almost all of the exposure decisions by choosing a scene, or automatic, mode such as Portrait, Landscape, or Sports mode. Alternately, they can take a bit more control using Creative Auto mode where they can adjust the background blur or sharpness setting, as well as selected other camera settings. In the semi-automatic modes such as P, Av, Tv, and A-DEP, the photographer can press the Q button for quick access to the most commonly used exposure settings and other camera options. Just use the cross-keys on the back of the camera to navigate to the settings you want to change, and then turn the Main dial to make the changes. And Canon includes the new guide that provides brief descriptions of controls and options when youâre using the camera menus. You can rate images using one to five stars, and then sort images for an in-camera slideshow based on the ratings. Slideshows can also be created using only still image or only videos. Despite the affordable price, Canon EOS T3/1100D photographers get full HD video that offers high-quality movies with no fuss or complicated settings to choose. Canon provides a capable video-editing program on the EOS Digital Solutions Disk that comes with the camera. You can add titles, stills to your movie, and you can convert the movie to black-and-white as well. Also if you need lighting for your video, the affordable new Canon 320EX flash unit features a bright LED light that is suitable for video lighting, and you can use it for up to 3.5 hours of continuous shooting. Canon didnât skimp on features.
